Millie’s 18 Month Update

angela price millie 18 month update milestones toys puzzles

In just the few short months since we have been quarantined, Millie went from a baby to a toddler - and a crazy toddler at that! She is so different from Liv it blows my mind. You cannot take your eyes off this one, she is always climbing something, putting stuff in her mouth, taking a marker to the furniture, haha - you name it she does it. Still, she is so much fun and I get so much joy out of watching her enjoying life. Always happy, always smiling, always singing and dancing, I can’t imagine a happier baby than Millie.

Milestones: I think talking is the biggest one. She has been a pretty good talker from a young age, but there is nothing she will not repeat now. She knows the names of familiar people, her favorite foods, and some of her favorite toys. The other night we were watching TV and she gets up and starts running to the kitchen, “snack, hungy, snack, hungy”, she also started saying or attempting to say I love you which is the sweetest thing I have ever witnessed.

She doesn’t love strangers (especially because she rarely sees anyone outside my immediate family), but if there is someone new around who talks to her she just stares at them with a blank stare showing no emotion until she warms up to them a bit and then they are best friends.

She is learning body parts, has eyes, nose, ears and mouth pretty much down.

Play: I would have to say her favorite thing to is dance, she is always asking for music to be put on. She likes babies, riding in sisters jeep, coloring, LOVES Mr. Potato Head and pretty much doing anything anyone else is doing. She really likes small spaces. You can always find her nestled in a corner, closet, or trying to shove herself in a cabinet, haha!

We have started working on putting away toys when we are done playing and she sings along to the “clean up, clean up” song.

Food: She is a great eater, LOVES food and eats like a full grown man. She is not the greatest at feeding herself. Being at my parents and surrounded by family has been the issue I think, everyone is quick to tend to her and feed her, so that is something we need to work on. Drinking out of a cup she is great at though.

Her favorite foods are berries, bananas, spaghetti, peanut butter crackers, chicken, cheese and she recently has had ketchup for the first time, so now if you put ketchup on anything at all she will eat it.

Sleep: We have hit a few speed bumps, mainly because we are at my parents house. She is out of her normal room, routine, and set up with new noises and what not.. It is crazy to think about, but since we had used WeeSleep she had never woken up during the night and cried until recently! She has also been teething since we have been here though, so that could also be contributing to her waking through the night. She is still getting the pacifier during the night, which I HATE, but she sleeps right under my dad’s bedroom so I don’t want to take it away while we are stying at my parents house. I know the longer we wait the harder it is going to be.

Checkups: We are behind on a few doctor appointments and what not, but I just have not felt comfortable taking her during the pandemic. It does not seem to be getting any better, so I need to decide what to do there.

On My Mind: Getting the pacifier taken away is the main thing on my mind when it comes to Millie. Also, her baby book! I have been so bad with this.[ I only do the first 12 months with each kid, so you wouldn’t think it would be that hard! I need to just get it done before the next baby comes.

Since we are my parents house we don’t have a lot of basics, so I wanted to share some of the toys I am purchasing to help Millie with her development over the next few months.

Puzzles to help with shapes and colors:
1. Melissa & Doug Chunky Shapes Puzzle
2. Top Bright Wooden Shape Sorter

Building Blocks:
3. Fairytale Kingdom Wooden Building Blocks (went with this one so Liv would like it too)

Splurge, but so dang cute:
4. Tree Blocks

Music Set:
5. Stoie’s Wooden Music Set

Playdough:
6. Eco-Kids Dough

Noahs Ark:
Came across this (7)Tender Leaf Toys set and it is just too cute.

I’m sure Millie, and probably Liv too, will love these toys and I’m really looking forward to watching her learn even more! If you have any questions about Millie and her milestones, or other toys your 18 month old has loved, let me know in the comments below!

Much Love,
