What’s In My Hospital Bag
I’m starting to work on Lincoln’s birth story that so many of you have been asking for, but until then I am sharing what I packed in our hospital bag. I have given birth in three different provinces/ states and each one differs in what they provide so I just bring everything I could need just in case!
At the time, we didn’t know what we were having, so you’ll notice that most of the colours for the baby were very neutral and worked perfectly! Since this was my third time giving birth, I knew what I would need and was able to keep it pretty simple, knowing that you’re only there for a few days and don’t need to pack your whole nursery! Hopefully this helps any first time mamas, or any mamas who are still unsure of what is really necessary for birth. The most important thing to remember is that you need to be comfortable!
FOR BABY:
2. Numpfer Baby Blanket and Wash Cloth
Honest Newborn Diapers & Wipes
3. Take Home Outfit
We kept it simple with just a white zip up onesie from OldNavy
4. CALM Collection Baby Body Balm
Car Seat with Newborn Insert
When we were done with the bucket car seat for Liv I just cleaned it up and stored it. So, when preparing for Millie we just grabbed the car seat as is and didn’t realize until we were putting Millie in it to go home that we had totally forgot the newborn insert!
FOR MOM:
Pants and Nursing Tank
8. Nursing Bra
10. CALM Shampoo and Body Wash
11. Robe
Adult Diaper
Some hospitals will provide mesh underwear and pads which are great, some will just put a towel under you. I am one who likes to be able to get up and get moving right away, so I always pack a diaper for myself so I feel like I can move around. No, it is not great for the ego, but really no part of childbirth is. You will want to have some full butt, roomy underwear on hand for the days following. I also love these core support undies from Knix.
12. Flip Flops
Chapstick
Slippers
Wallet - make sure you have your necessary ID and insurance information.
iPad with movies already downloaded!!! The hospitals don’t always have WiFi.
Snacks for you and the hubby
13. Yeti Water Bottle
Ice cold water is a must for me.
Essentials to make mama feel better.
For me that includes
- dry shampoo
- hair brush
- hair tie
- tinted face lotion
- bronzer
- mascara
- deodorant
- Corpa Flora make up remover (14)
- Corpa Flora hydration oil (15)
- tooth brush and toothpaste
Something nice for the nursing staff.
This is a little harder with Covid, but with both of my previous deliveries the nurses made ALL the difference and you will want to show your appreciation - trust me.
Of course, there may be certain things you need (like glasses or medications) that I didn’t add, but I think this covers most of the basics. If you pack anything else that might be helpful to new mamas, leave it in the comments below. It’s so important to help each other out, especially in motherhood!
Much Love,
