Our Night-Time Routine
Life with three has been quite the adjustment - one of the biggest adjustments being the night time routine. I am big about keeping a routine for all the kids, especially little Lincoln. We started a night time routine with him right off the bat; I shared a bit about that in Lincolns 2 month update that you can find here, but I get asked a lot about how we manage getting everyone down for the night, especially when I am on my own.
We just recently got a good routine going, so thought I would share. We keep all the night time routines pretty short, so it doesn’t seem like a marathon to get everyone in bed. It takes about an hour or so to get everyone down.
We head up stairs not too long after dinner, around 6:30 and that is when we start the wind down time. Liv and Millie post up in mine and Carey’s bed and watch a show while I bath Lincoln. Lincoln loves the bath, so sometimes we spend a little extra time in there if the girls are behaving. We don’t use any special bath for Linc, just this little chair and I use the CALM Shampoo and Body Wash on him every other bath or so, along with the Frida Baby Flake Fixer (I swear by this for cradle cap)
Note: when Lincoln was first born we didn’t do a full bath every night, most nights were just little sponge baths in the sink.
Then little Lincoln gets a massage with the CALM Baby Oil, a fresh diaper, pajamas and is swaddled up in the Numpfer blanket and then, to be sure his little arms stay in, we use the Happiest Baby Sleep Pea sleep sack. Then a quick story and a song and he goes down into the Snuggle Me in his crib
Once he is down, the the girls jump in the bath (if Carey is home he starts the this process while I am putting Lincoln down) We do a similar routine with them: they have a bath, then we head to their bedroom and they each pick out a story. We finish off with about 5 minutes of cuddles, sing a song and then lights out.
Some nights go smoother than others, but we are really getting in a good routine and hoping it gets easier and easier each day.
A few of you have asked about the kids’ personalized hooded towels, they were all gifts but you can get them from Pottery Barn Kids.
I hope this helped a bit for any of you that were curious. Of course, it’s easier when Carey is home and we love having him home, but we’ve found what works for us regardless. If you try out some of my tips, I hope they work for you, but remember that every baby is different and you need to find what works for your family.
Much Love,
