1 in 3 Canadians will experience mental illness in their lifetime and with stats like that, it’s important that conversation around the subject becomes a normal part of life. Podcasts are becoming more and more common, so it’s really great that many of them revolve around the topics of mental health & wellness. Whether you’re looking to learn more about gut health, hear other’s stories of mental illness struggles and triumphs or get some advice from specialized doctors, the below podcasts are ones that I highly suggest you check out!

SUPER SOUL

Oprah’s talk show may be over, but her Super Soul Podcast is just as good! She talks with guests such as Chip & Joanna Gaines and Dr. Maya Angelou, but also has episodes dedicated to specific topics like Ego and Mindfulness. A really inspiring podcast.

 

THE GOOP PODCAST

I really like the Goop Podcast, it’s one that deals with various topics, including health and wellness, in a really interesting way. Not only are the guests really forward thinking, but the topics they discuss can resonate with so many people. Also, host Gwyneth Paltrow is so entertaining.

 

REDEFINING WEALTH

This podcast is hosted by Patrice Washington and the tagline is “Chase Purpose, not Money”. Her aim is to influence her listeners to live their life’s purpose and find fulfillment instead of focusing on the financial gain.

 

THIS ISN’T THERAPY

Jake Ernst, who is a therapist, and Simon Paluck, who is a filmmaker, host this podcast together and each episode discusses a different topic that someone may discuss in therapy. Recent topics include Imposter Syndrome, Childhood Friendships and Finding a Therapist, which definitely resonates with me!

 

ASK LISA: THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PARENTING

This podcast is for the parents! Dr. Lisa Damour uses her knowledge to discuss modern day problems that parents are facing, such as dealing with remote learning, how to discuss gender with your children and online socializing. If you are feeling like you need a little advice, this podcast is your best friend.

 

BE WELL BY KELLY

Kelly Leveque is the host of this podcast and her episodes focus on the science of nutrition. From your immune system, to the health of your gut, to having a beautiful birth, Kelly explores your health in ways you may not have considered before. Our family is very focused on our gut health, so that episode is definitely a good one to listen to!

 

THE MENTAL ILLNESS HAPPY HOUR

If you need a dose of mental illness truth with a laugh or two, this is a great podcast. Paul Gilmartin explores mental illness, trauma, addiction and negative thinking with various guests and the occasional doctor.

 

THE ART OF BEING WELL

Dr. Will Cole is a functional medicine expert and aims to help you on your wellness journey. He explores topics like nutrition, mental health and beauty with guests such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Elle Macpherson and Dr. Caroline Leaf.

 

THE BLIND STIGMA

Stacy-Ann Buchanan and Dr. Natasha Williams host this podcast and they talk about all things mental health within the black community. They aim to create a safe space to talk about things that may otherwise be taboo to discuss. A really open and honest podcast.

 

HAPPY PLACE

This podcast is hosted by English television and radio presenter, Fearne Cotton. Each episode dives into a different person’s story. The guests include Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Busy Phillips and Deepak Chopra. Each episode touches on hardships and the mental well being of the guest.
