DIY Baby Books
I posted about our DIY baby books on Instagram and I’ve been flooded with questions ever since. I figured it would be best to put all the information in one spot for anyone who is interested!
To create the baby books, I use a program called Blurb. You can download their BookWright design program, which is where you will design your baby book. The program gives you options to make whatever book you want. The options are endless. You can make a baby book, family photo book, wedding album - if you can imagine it, this program will help you make it. If you’re worried about your “creative” ability, don’t. Blurb is such a great tool to bring your DIY dreams to life without needing to cut and paste anything!
For the baby books, I choose large square (12x12), premium luster and lay flat. The “Modern Family” book template is the one I go with and use that as a base to organize the photos. From there, I customize the layout so that it looks exactly how I imagine it. I also follow Blurb on Instagram, which is where I pull a lot of my inspiration from for the books.
When it comes to the cover, I use their “Hardcover Image Wrap”. I leave the background completely white and just add the child’s name to the front and the spine. For example, I put Millie Anne on the front and chose to just use Millie for the spine. I really like to keep it simple and clean for all of the kid’s books.
The cost of your book will depend on the size you choose, the number of pages in the book, the paper quality, etc. For the 12x12 square book, it starts at $64.99 CAD, but I always add quite a few pages and my books usually end up costing around $120 CAD when all is said and done.
It’s definitely not a “cheap” option for a baby book, but I feel as though it’s more special for the kids because I’ve created myself just for them. The clean and simple design mean that we can keep them displayed in our home and someday, they can display them in their own homes.
