HABS Wives Q&A
It is a big week here in Montreal! The Habs are starting round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs tomorrow and all of us wives cannot freaking wait!!! It has been a wild ride so far and we are going forward with good vibes only! We have been on quite a few playoff runs in the past. Every time we lose out we always say “There is always next season”, but when you reach a certain point you realize those “next seasons” are limited. We’re really trying to just take in the moment on this run and enjoy every minute of it! On that note, I sent some questions to the wives on the team to get their take on this years playoff series and what preparing for a game looks like in their house! Keep reading to see their answers.
IF YOU ARE NOT IN MONTREAL, TELL ME HOW YOU KEEP IN THE PLAYOFF SPIRIT AT HOME.
We are in town, but loving our playoff shirts and being able to go to games and cheer together again!

To keep the spirit alive at home we really just keep it simple. We stick to our morning FaceTimes and pep talks with dad over breakfast. Griffin’s preschool has also been so great in supporting the Habs and displaying their spirit loud and proud!
— Blake Perry
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR GAME DAY ROUTINES AND SUPERSTITIONS.
Good vibes ONLY! I’ve been wearing the same pair of socks every game and they no longer have toes. They’re just like an open piece of cloth, lol.
— Cat Toffoli (Instagram)
I can’t drink red wine during the game.
— Emilia Armia
Our game day superstitions mostly consist of sticking to the same clothing we wore for the last win, and Griffin loves to “stand” with the boys for the anthem.
— Blake Perry
Everyone (except me) has naps on game days! Especially if we are going to the game that night. Before the game, the boys all have a special handshake they do with Jeff, either in person or on FaceTime! I also like to go for an extra long walk on games days to get out the jittery vibes and stay as busy as possible until the puck drops! And clothes are a big one for me…I am working with pretty much one shirt every game that I have to wear!

DOES YOUR MAN HAVE ANY SUPERSTITIONS?
There are too many to name, but the most important to us is a pre-game FaceTime before he heads to the rink.
— Blake Perry
He’s a little less superstitious than me, but he definitely has them and tries to downplay them to me.
— Cat Toffoli
Just the handshake with the boys. I’m sure he has some quirky stuff that he does at the rink, but I’ll never know! Ha! Also, I don’t know if I would call it a superstition, but he puts some more effort into his suit choice every game now (sometimes he calls me into help) …I think it’s the whole “look good, feel good, play good” mentality!
— Julie Petry
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT PLAYOFFS?
The community it creates in the city and between us girls. And how pumped up the guys get. Least favorite thing is the stress of winning and unknown schedules.
— Jacqueline Chiarot
Favorite thing - the atmosphere at the rink is next level! Least favorite is being nervous watching the game.
— Emilia Armia
Just the overall atmosphere surrounding the entire playoffs. It’s what the guys work their entire year for, so any time they are succeeding in playoffs is so exciting and makes us so proud.
— Blake Perry
It’s insanely exciting to be experiencing them here this year, especially after the year we had not being able to do much here or together - this hits different. Sooo appreciative of this time. Personally it’s wild to experience the Bell Centre for the first time during playoffs! We’ve had quite a few nerve wracking games!
— Cat Toffoli
The energy around the city! You can feel it. Living in a hockey city like Montreal is the most special feeling during a playoff run. I love how everyone has gotten behind this team and everyone is on board! I love seeing all the car flags and just spirit! Least favorite is the emotional roller coaster of it all! So much up and down during it all.
— Julie Petry
HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN THIS FAR IN PLAYOFFS BEFORE?
Yes! And against Vegas, too! When we were in Winnipeg we went to conference final against Vegas, but lost.
— Jacqueline Chiarot
Corey has been really fortunate to have played on some great teams in the past, making it pretty far a few times! However, last season may have been the most memorable. He went all the way to the finals with the Dallas Stars. It was definitely an experience to say the least.
— Blake Perry
We went this far once and it was also against Vegas! Now it’s our turn to win!
— Emilia Armia
Never. The farthest we have gone was 2015 when we were traded here and they lost to Tampa in the second round. It stinks that this year is the way it is and we don’t have fans at full capacity or ability to experience a semi final in its prime, BUT it’s still very exciting and I do feel like this year is going to be special. The energy feels more vibrant than ever and I just hope we carry it into the final round!!! Good vibes only!
— Julie Petry
ANY MESSAGES FOR THE MEN?
Good vibes only! GHG!
— Julie Petry
The guys hockey career seem to really fly by so quickly and it’s easy to take it for granted and the notion that perhaps you’ll have a chance next year to win it all. But after seeing and knowing how some of the most dedicated, passionate and most hard working players in the world still have and may never go all the way breaks your heart — but also makes you realize that you need to relish every moment, every single time. Never take a single chance for granted. Give it your all. Lay it all on the line. GO HABS GO.

The Rolling Stones inspired shirt you see us wearing is not for sale (we made that special for just the hockey family), but we do have some awesome CHic playoff gear you can rock! Click here to check out the playoff line - the items are going quick!
Much Love,
