Indigenous Brands to Support
Tomorrow is National Indigenous People’s Day and most of you know that Carey has Indigenous roots, so I thought it would be a good idea to list 10 Indigenous brands that you should support. There are so many beautiful products, items with special meaning and traditional decor that are created by Indigenous people, so make sure to take a look at their Instagram pages, their websites and consider supporting what they do!
BIRCH HILL STUDIO INC
Not only is this business Metis-owned, but it’s also women-owned! They sell products that are exclusively Canadian-made or designed and their stuff is so cute. I love the simple candle design.
CHEEKBONE BEAUTY
This beauty line is so cute! The products are all high quality and cruelty-free and they’ve also launched a less-waste line of lipsticks. If their products aren’t enough to sway you, they also love to give back to charity.
DREAMWEAVER YXE
Dreamcatchers are such a beautiful, traditional piece of indigenous art and these ones are ethically sourced and handcrafted with natural materials.
MINAKUSISTA
This shop sells beautiful earrings and really unique prints! With all the bright, tropical colours this owner uses I know Liv would love to have one of these hanging in her room!
S&K COLLECTIVE
I love the unique sayings on their shirts and there’s ones for the whole family!
SKWALWEN BOTANICALS
This skin care line incorporates plants and organic ingredients into their product and each product’s name has a story behind it. The packaging is really sleek and there is so much variety!
TRICKSTER COMPANY
There’s nothing better than having fun leggings to work out in! Trickster Company prints indigenous art onto their clothing and I think it’s so cool!
UNORTHODOX YUKON
The intricate beading on their designs is so unique. This shop is full of products that are designed or made in the Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories or British Columbia!
WILDFLOWERS & CO.
Another indigenous and woman-owned business, Wildflowers & Co. sells products from small shops, women-owned businesses and indigenous businesses. It’s basically a one-stop shop!
YUKON SOAPS COMPANY
This beautiful handmade soap honours indigenous wisdom and is made with boreal plants. Plus, they have great products for men!
I definitely recommend checking these businesses out and taking the time to learn a little bit more about the indigenous people! We love to talk about the traditions and culture at home so that our kids will always know where they come from. Let me know below how you’ll be participating in Indigenous People’s Day!
Much Love,
