Back to School: Keeping Our Kids Healthy

It’s hard to believe that there’s only a few weeks left before the kids go back to school! I’m sure many parents are still quite nervous about what this school year holds in terms of the pandemic and our children adjusting to the new normal, whatever that may look like! It’s difficult as a parent to try and digest the changes while making sure your kids are growing up happy and minimally affected by all of this. For me, I have to take charge of the things I can control and one of those is the health of my kids. It is so disappointing that during the pandemic no officials are speaking on the importance of eating healthy whole foods, maintaining a healthy body weight and incorporating vitamins. So, I am talking about it here.

For those who want to get angry in my comment sections for talking about vitamins, I am simply sharing what we do and the products we use. I recommend that you speak to your doctor if you are thinking about adding supplements to your children’s diets. I do acknowledge that further research is needed to determine what role, if any, vitamin D and vitamin D deficiency might play in the prevention of and treatment of COVID-19. Regardless, vitamin D has always been a daily supplement that my family has taken.

OUR FIVE SIMPLE STEPS:

Again, these are the things our family chooses to implement into our daily routine, but might inspire you, too! This is not rocket science, but sometimes just a reminder on how easy it is to keep our kids immune system in check is nice to have. So here we go...

  1. MAKE SURE THEY ARE GETTING PLENTY OF SLEEP

Rest is vital in maintaining a strong immune system. When we are at rest, our bodies regenerate and heal.

  2. KEEP THEM HYDRATED

Hydration keeps just about everything in your body running smoothly and can help kids maintain a healthy weight in adulthood. Being well hdyrated can also improve mood, memory and attention.

  3. KEEP THEM FULL OF HEALTHY FOODS

This aids in physical and mental development and helps them fight off illness.

  4. GET ACTIVE

Exercise keeps bodies resilient and makes it easier to fight off infection.

  5. GIVE THEM VITAMINS

We give our kids Mary Ruth Organics, Multivitamin, Vitamin D +K, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Probiotics and Elderberry when needed. I have recently added Zinc after taking Shannon Tripps’ Master Class! She is a Pediatric ER Nurse that offers online classes giving advice on how to keep your kids healthy! She actually recommends all 5 of these steps to boosting kids’ immunity.

I am not saying this will prevent our kids from contracting Covid or any other sickness that may be going around at school, but it for sure won’t hurt! Regardless, we try to follow these 5 basic steps year round (Covid or not) and we have found our kids get sick a lot less often than most other kids we are around.

Last year I wrote a post on keeping kids healthy with some tips for the colder season and you can find that HERE.

If you’re interested in where I found my information, these are my sources:

I highly encourage you to do your own research and make decisions based on what you feel is best for your family. This helps me to feel a bit more at ease as my children go back to school and enjoy the year with their friends!

Much Love,
