The Benefits of Cold and Heat Therapy
Over the past few months, I have been been talking about both cold and heat therapy on my Instagram. It’s something I’ve worked into my routine for my overall wellness and so many of you have been asking for more information, so I’ve gathered not only some information on both types of therapy, but resources you may also find useful. So, let’s get into it!
COLD WATER IMMERSION THERAPY
WHAT IS IT?
Cold Water Therapy is the practice of using water at approximately 59°F (15°C) to treat health conditions or stimulate health benefits. It is also referred to as Cold Hydrotherapy.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Water Therapy can improve your circulation in your lymphatic system, as well as your cardiovascular system. Among it’s many benefits, it can assist in the following:
Deepening Your Sleep
Spiking Your Energy Levels
Reducing Inflammation
Boosting Your Immune System
Improving Mental Health
Arthritis Relief
Metabolism Improvement
Muscle Recovery

There is a lot of research still needed on this subject, but as I am with anything, I like to try it for myself and see how I feel! I have found that the Huberman Lab has really guided me in trying out and incorporating cold therapy into my routine. You can find the information I’ve read HERE.
HEAT THERAPY
WHAT IS IT?
There are two different types of heat therapy: dry heat and moist heat. Dry heat therapy includes heating pads, dry heating packs and saunas. On the other hand, moist heat includes steamed towels, moist heating packs, hot baths, etc. With either form of heat therapy, the goal is to aim for “warm” heat instead of “hot” for the best results.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Similar to cold water therapy, heat therapy has many benefits throughout your body. When practiced in specific ways, heat therapy can achieve dramatic growth hormone releases, a reduction in cortisol levels and aid in healing or improving various bodily tissues. Other benefits include:
Metabolism
Heart Health
Hormone Production
Exercise Recovery
Cognition
Mood
To learn more about the science behind heat therapy and the benefits of it, you can listen to THIS PODCAST. It’s a great source for anyone who wants to learn and possibly incorporate it into their own routine.
If you find this information interesting, I highly recommend you do some of your own research to see how you could best incorporate it into your life for the benefits you desire. So far, I am really loving the results in my body and will continue to share my journey with you. I’d love to know if you’ve tried either one of these therapies and what your experience has been, has it worked for you?
Much Love,
